Tips to Get Started On Your Life Story
Do you have stories and memories you would like to write down as a legacy for family and friends? Has it been difficult for you to get started?
Here are some simple tips to help you begin the process of life story writing:
1. Find a picture or two from the time period on which you would like to focus today. Take a few minutes to study the picture. Who are the people? What things are in the picture? What was their relationship to you? What was happening in the picture? Do you remember that day and how that situation impacted you? What feelings did you have about that situation, that day and the people in the picture?
2. Sit comfortably with a paper and pen, or at your computer or laptop, and write down everything you are remembering. Don’t concern yourself with achieving fine sentence structure or correct grammar and spelling. Just capture your memories on paper. Do your best to write two pages or about 600-800 words at a time.
3. Later, go back and clean up the sentence structure, grammar, and spelling of those two pages, if you desire.
4. Keep continuing this process, adding more chapters to your life story. Later, order all your various life stories in a rough chronological order, by topic, or however you would like to gather them together. There is no right or wrong way.
Very simply, this is how you can begin to write your life story, two pages at a time!
